This 5-day core program is designed to prepare each student with the skills necessary for operation, installation, setup, programming and basic operational troubleshooting of the ControlLogix / GuardLogix PLC hardware platform and RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 Logix Designer software.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Describe the major components of a ControlLogix / GuardLogix system.
  • Identify a ControlLogix / GuardLogix system’s capability and characteristics with respect to the following: number of allowable I/O points, memory backup battery life and key switch positions.
  • Describe all cables necessary for a ControlLogix / GuardLogix system, including: DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP cables, serial cables, terminators, wiring of common I/O modules and power distribution.
  • Identify and describe key controller status information with its significance and determine the appropriate corrective action (when necessary) to be taken.
  • Identify and explain the purpose of each of the menu options of RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 Logix Designer software.
  • Demonstrate and understand the use of the following ladder diagram instructions: bit/relay type, timers, counters, moves, compares, COP and CPS, GSV and SSV, and program control.
  • Demonstrate, on the lab trainers, the safe use of temporary measures (such as I/O forces) to maintain production until the proper repairs can be made.
  • Identify the recommended corrective action to be taken when given the state of the diagnostic indicators on the following: controller module, DeviceNet and/or EtherNet/IP modules, local and remote I/O modules, and all system power supplies.
  • Use “Who Active” to connect and go online to a processor, upload and download a project.
  • Search and cross reference instructions and tags.
  • Enter and edit logic in run or program mode
  • Create and assign tags, force or toggle tags, and edit tag data.
  • Open, save, import and export user programs.
