Course Information

  • Code ID: ROC 200
  • Course Type: Instructor led, taught with a 40/60 theory to hands-on approach. Theory portions will be followed by lab exercises to ensure an in-depth understanding of all key topics
  • Course Length: 5 days
  • Student Profile: Maintenance Technicians, Skilled Trades, Engineers, Supervisory Staff
  • Prerequisites: BizLink ROC 100 - Rockwell GuardLogix Level 1, or previous training in ControlLogix and/or GuardLogix, EtherNet/IP, and DeviceNet. Each student should already have the ability to set up a basic ControlLogix / GuardLogix project from scratch before beginning this course.

Course Profile

This 5-day program provides a quick review of topics that were presented in the Level 1 course, then explores more deeply into the communication options such as DeviceNet and Ethernet/IP. This course also works heavily with the safety options of the GuardLogix system to include hardware, configuration, troubleshooting, and the safety instruction set. Students will work extensively within the RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 Logix Designer software environment.

Topics Covered

BizLink Robotic Solutions USA, Inc. offers flexibility in training curriculum. Please ask the instructor for any system-specific information relating to your applications.

  • Troubleshooting with ControlLogix and/or GuardLogix control systems
  • Understanding naming conventions for tasks, programs, routines, I/O modules, and tags
  • Understanding safety task components (tasks, tags, routines)
  • Implementing and troubleshooting safety logic using safety-specific instructions and data
  • Configuring and debugging EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet modules using RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 Logix Designer, RSLinx, RSNetworx for DeviceNet, and LED indicators
  • Configuring I/O components for addition/replacement:
    • Turck discrete I/O modules
    • CompactBlock Guard I/O modules
    • ArmorBlock Guard I/O modules
    • Point I/O standard and safety modules
    • Other modules as discovered
  • Understanding and using UDTs (user-defined data types) in tags associated with the hardware listed above
  • Using produced and consumed tags for unscheduled data transfer to/from other PLCs
  • Working through firmware issues using ControlFLASH software
  • Understanding DeviceNet communication:
  • Understanding EtherNet/IP communication:
    • EtherNet/IP cabling & network topology
    • EtherNet/IP addressing standards
    • Tracing EtherNet/IP inputs and outputs to controller tags in the RSLogix 5000 / Logix Designer project
  • Using electrical circuit drawings and wire numbers in the field to determine RSLogix 5000 / Logix Designer tags for I/O points
  • Using cross-referencing and searching techniques to troubleshoot through logic to find sources of faults

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Use and understand safety instructions in the safety task.
  • Use and understand produced and consumed tags as cell interlocks.
  • Troubleshoot programs using GSV and SSV instructions.
  • Use Search and Cross Reference tools to troubleshoot alarms.
  • Use I/O Forcing to temporarily overcome obstacles such as failed hardware.
  • Configure and understand DeviceNet and/or EtherNet/IP hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot DeviceNet and/or EtherNet/IP hardware and software.
  • Use ControlFLASH to resolve firmware mismatch issues.
  • Use and understand the HMI and its software.
