This core program is designed to prepare each student with the skills necessary for operation, installation, setup, programming, and basic operational troubleshooting of the Siemens S7‐300 series PLC using Step 7 software.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Edit programs in LAD (Ladder).
- Understand and program Timer and Counter instructions.
- Describe and program Comparison instructions.
- Describe and program Math and Conversion instructions.
- Work offline and online, as well as understand the differences in a Siemens control system.
- Identify and explain the use of different block types, including Organization Blocks (OB), Function (FC), Function Blocks (FB), and Data Blocks (DB).
- Identify and explain System Function (SFC), System Function Blocks (SFB) and Instance Data Blocks (IDB).
- Use search and cross reference tools to quickly navigate through a Step 7 project.
- Eliminate CPU stoppage errors installed by the instructor with the use of interrupts.
- Force I/O to temporarily bypass a failed device.
- Create a Variable Address Table for monitoring PLC addresses.
- Troubleshoot the system using diagnostic LEDs and Step 7 software.
